Scented Review: Katy Perry Killer Queen EDP (EN)

Today’s scented review is all about a budget-friendly scent which you can find literally everywhere but no matter the price it smells ah-mazing – it has intense development, great sillage, expensive feeling and it’s non-comercial. Are you interested?

First time I tried Katy Perry’s perfume was back in  2014 where my favourite youtuber Shannon pointed 2 of Katy Perry’s perfumes as her favourites here Perfume Collection & Favorites! ♡ Shaaanxo - YouTube I was immediately intrigued so I had to give them a try and I ended up really liking them, so since then I always make sure to keep in touch with Katy Perry’s perfumes.

I’m not a fan of her but I do think she knows how to make great perfumes. I have a review on another of her fragrances here – INDI. Her best smelling perfume for me is no doubts the one I’m writing today a review on: Killer Queen. Tangy forest fruits, plums, jasmine and patchouli, doesn’t this sounds like great combination to you?

History:

Killer Queen by Katy Perry is a Floral Fruity Gourmand fragrance for women, launched in 2013. The nose behind this fragrance is Laurent Le Guernec. The scent is called Killer Queen by the song written by Freddie Mercury, and apparently it is totally different from its two predecessors.

“Killer Queen has been in my vocabulary since I was 15, because of the song ‘Killer Queen’ by Queen,” said Perry to wwd. “Freddie Mercury painted the lyrics of this woman who I wanted to be. She seemed very powerful, and she captivated a room when she walked in. I named my company Killer Queen after those lyrics. I feel like, after all this time, it was appropriate to use that name in association with something I did. I feel like I’m falling, finally, into that woman Freddie painted.”

Announced as a playful, sophisticated, powerful, edgy and delicious fragrance, it reflects the rebellious spirit of the singer.

Description:

Top notes: forest fruits, plum, bergamot

Middle notes: frangipani, jasmine sambak, celosia

Base notes: pralines, patchouli, cashmeran

Development on my skin:

On my skin Killer Queen EDP is thick, fragrant and sweet forest fruits & plum jam – tangy, juicy and ripe fruits, accompanied by strong and overwhelming jasmine with very few creamy frangipani petals around and animalistic earthy-woody patchouli overlay ❤

Initially after spraying scent is super sharp with a lot of sour and tangy bergamot, it even reminds me of aftershave 😀 Masculine notes are quickly disappearing and juicy and tangy forest fruits are appealing: blackcurrant, blueberry, blackberry, all kind of tarty and tangy fruits, accompanied by juicy plums.  All of my favourite perfumes are having this exact type of tarty sweetness – either from sour cherry, forest fruits, rhubarb…I don’t like simply vanilla-ish sweet perfumes, I like my perfumes to have a tangy feeling in it. Bottle suits the perfume perfectly – if I had to associate Killer Queen with a shade, it will be exactly this type of bourdeax red, the shade that forest fruity jam has.  Base releases dominant jasmine – you either love or hate jasmine, there is no in between. The scent is often too strong, too specifique and even headache causing. I consider jasmine as the most recognizable “white flower” so if you aren’t jasmine fan, then you can skip Killer Queen. The jasmine here is in huge doses, it’s dominant and detectable and it’s lightened up just a bit from few frangipani petals. Frangipani has light, soft and creamy-soapy scent, it’s often used as scent in the shower gels. Strong patchouli note is present as well – dry, earthy, slightly animalistic one so if you’re not a strong patchouli fan, you can skip this perfume. Patchouli adds a significant depth to the scent, it makes it more mature and sophisticated.

Killer Queen isn’t linear scent, it has intense development and it’s changing throughout the day. After the initial sharp and masculine beginning, you can feel tangy forest fruits, accompanied by juicy plums, topped up with jasmine with a touch of frangipani and a strong dash of dry and earthy patchouli.

I love the combination of tangy fruits and patchouli and it is present in most of my favourite perfumes:

❤ Guerlain La Petite Robe Noire – here the tangy fruits are sour cherries and again, it has tons of patchouli, but it’s much sweeter than Killer Queen. You can read full review on it here

❤ Nina Ricci Ricci Ricci EDP – here we have tangy rhubarb sweetness and the patchouli isn’t as earthy as it is in Killer Queen, but Ricci Ricci is much musky and sweeter compared to Killer Queen. You can read full review on it here

❤Roberto Cavalli Paradiso Assoluto EDP – here we have jasmine and patchouli as in Killer Queen, but Paradiso Assoluto isn’t sweet at all, it’s a huge white floral bouquet with a dash of coconut. You can read full review on it here

Killer Queen is complex scent with intense development and it has dominant forest fruits, plum, jasmine and patchouli notes. Killer Queen is decadent, overwhelming scent that has excellent sillage and leaves a trail after you. It’s sweet but not in a immature way thanks to the patchouli & jasmine note. It’s definitely not your typical celebrity fruity scent, I think it’s worth the test and it’s somehow underrated. For the price you get perfume with intense development and not boring mainstream feeling.  

Packaging:

Beautiful ❤ Bottle is ruby shaped from massive glass which is ombre colored and gradient comes from beige to bright red and bourdeax to black. There is red stone placed right at the sprayer to match the bottle, sprayer itself plus the cap are designed in golden and the cap is also crown shaped and has a KP stamped. Bottle is super beautiful, in fact everyone who get the chance to take a look at my perfume collection grabs first either this bottle or the Marc Jacobs Decadence Divinе one (review here) so I consider these 2 bottles as the most eyecatcing ones in my collection.

Storage:

Killer Queen is available in 30, 50 and 100 ml bottles as well as in sets with shower gel and boty lotion. Mine bottle is the 50 ml one.

Season appropriate:

Killer Queen develops best in cold weather – such as in late fall and winter. In the cold weather forest fruits and plums are sweet, tangy and fragrant, jasmine is softer and patchouli is sophisticated and fine, while in hot weather the fruits in Killer Queen are getting bitter and sour, jasmine is heavy (like in Alien by Thierry Mugler) and patchouli tends to get try and too earthy. I prefer to wear Killer Queen in temperatures below 12 grad Celsius.

Time appropriate:

I love wearing strong perfumes that have heavy trail so I wear Killer Queen as daytime perfume too, but most of the people accept it more as night time appropriate, because it’s heavy, strong, has metric sillage and it’s really noticeable.

Longevity:

Really high! With 2-3 spritzes in the morning this perfume lasts on my skin for the whole day. It does not require any additional spritzes throughout the day once applied in the morning.  

Killer Queen is forest fruit fantasy (blueberries, blackcurrant, blackberries), juicy plums, decadent jasmine and earthy patchouli ❤ Bottle suits this perfume so well – decadent, luxurious, red, eye-catching scent, which is far from mainstream. In the last couple of years the combination of fruits and patchouli is super popular and even turned into a new olfactive category – fruitchuli (fruit + patchouli). Killer Queen fits into this category but what makes it more different is that it’s not that sickly sweet as the most popular fruitchuli perfumes tend to be. It’s sweet but not in  a sickly sweet or gourmet way, it’s tangly sweet.

I recommend Killer Queen to those of you who are looking for a budget-friendly, strong scent that leaves fragrant trail after and has the modern fruitchuli vibe but it’s not mainstream and plain sugary-vanilla-ish.

В днешното ароматно ревю ще ви разкажа за един супер бюджетен аромат, достъпен във всяка дрогерия, който обаче е с аромат, в пъти надвишаващ цената  - интензивно развитие, страхотен шлейф, влачещ се на метри зад вас, класно излъчване и некомерсиално звучене. Събудих ли интереса ви? 😊

С парфюмите на Katy Perry се запознах през далечната вече 2014-та година, когато любимата ми ютюбърка Шанън в това видео тук Perfume Collection & Favorites! ♡ Shaaanxo - YouTube посочи за свой любим парфюм цели два на Katy Perry – Meow и Purr. Аз, разбира се, обърнах цяла София, за да ги намеря и да ги тествам – мисля, че нищо не съм издирвала така настървено и упорито в живота си, както парфюми 😀 За парфюм съм готова да обикалям километри наред, да играя на търг от другия край на света, да сключвам съмнителни сделки...

В крайна сметка намерих Meow и Purr и много ги харесах, не си ги закупих, защото по това време не се затрупвах с парфюми (Грешка! Тогава притежавах 2-3 парфюма и имах правило, че за всеки новопоявил се в колекцията ми, трябва да изразходя друг. После започнах работа в един от най-големите парфюмни и козметични концерни и правилото рязко изчезна 😀 Освен това колкото пъти съм отложила да си купя някой парфюм, толкова пъти се е оказвал спрян и невъзможен за откриване тогава, когато пак се присетя за него, та вече не чакам, то затова и имам 20 парфюма...) Сега малко съжалявам, че не си купих по 30 ml от Purr и Meow, защото бяха мой тип аромати и вече не се намират н-и-к-ъ-д-е. Е, флаконите им са потресаващо грозни за моя вкус, освен това аз не понасям котки, но щях да преглътна тези две дребни подробности. Започнах да следя парфюмите, които Katy Perry лансира (нея не я харесвам, така че не я следя, но определено знае как да прави парфюми 😊), като имам ревю тук за друг нейн аромат, който притежавам – INDI. Повечето ѝ парфюми ми допадат, но най-добрият за мен е именно обектът на днешното ревю: Killer Queen. Тръпчиви горски плодове и сливи, пищен жасмин и землисто пачули, как ви звучи Killer Queen?

История:

Katy Perry Killer Queen е флорално-плодов-гурме аромат, лансиран през 2013 г., парфюмеристът зад композицията е Лоран Льо Гернек. Killer Queen е третият аромат на Katy Perry и е кръстен на едноименната песен на Фреди Меркюри. Кейти Пери споделя, че песента ѝ е любима още от 15-годишна възраст и е изиграла голяма роля в оформянето на характера и възприятието ѝ за себе си – жената, описана в песента, е много силна и прави впечатление навсякъде, където присъства. Кейти кръщава аромата така, защото го асоциира с аромата, който би носила този тип жена – игрив, изтънчен, силен, дързък и вкусен аромат, който кореспондира с непокорния дух на изпълнителката.

Ароматно описание:

Връхни нотки: горски плодове, слива, бергамот

Средни нотки: франджипани, жасмин самбак, целозия

Базови нотки: пралини, пачули, кашмир

Развитие върху  мен:

Върху моята кожа Killer Queen EDP е гъст, ароматен и много сладък конфитюр от горски плодове и сливи – тръпчиви, сочни и дъхави плодове в компанията на силен, обземащ пространството жасмин с няколко листенца нежни, кремообразни франджипани и подложка от мощно, анималистично землисто-дървено пачули ❤

Непосредствено при напръскване ароматът е силно резлив, може дори да сбърчите нос от почти мъжкото начало, с изразен кисел и остър бергамот и зелени сливи. Напомня лекичко даже на афтършейв! Мъжките нотки обаче бързо изчезват, за да превземат аромата тръпчиво-сладки горски плодове: касис, боровинка, къпина, все сладко-резливи, с щипка кисела тръпчивост плодчета, в компанията на сочни сини сливи, отново леко резливо-сладки. Всичките ми любими парфюми имат точно такъв тип резлива сладост, било то от вишна, горски плодове, ревен...Не харесвам плоско сладки и гурме парфюми, обичам да има киселинно-тръпчива жилка, Killer Queen също не прави изключение. Флаконът много точно му отива, ако трябваше да асоциирам Killer Queen с цвят, то това щеще да е някой нюанс на бордо, какъвто има и домашното сладко от горски плодове и сливи. Разкрива се и доминантен жасмин – жасмина или го харесваш, или не го понасяш, рядко има средно положение. Често ароматът му е твърде силен, специфичен, остър и дори главоболен, считам жасмина за най-разпознаваемото, но и най-силно ароматното цвете от категорията „бели цветя“, та ако не харесвате жасмин, верояно Killer Queen няма да ви се хареса. Жасминът тук е в големи дози, доминантен и отчетлив и е олекотен само от няколко акорда франджипани, но определено се усеща интензивно. Франджипани има лек, мек и кремообразно-сапунен аромат, често се ползва като аромат в душ геловете, в парфюмерият също се усеща, но самият му аромат не е доминантен и отчетлив, та тук неговата роля е мъъъъничко да усмири жасмина. Базата е изцяло от пачули – сухо, землисто, леко прашно, леко дразнещо гърлото, така че ако пачулито не е сред любимите ви нотки, определено ароматът няма да ви допадне. Пачулито придава една дълбочина на аромата, прави го по-зрял, по-изтънчен и по-плътен.

Killer Queen не е линеен аромат, има интензивно развитие и се променя в течение на деня, а и при промяна на температурата. След острото и почти мъжко бергамотено начало тръпчиви горски плодове, в компанията на сини сливи, обкръжени от пищен жасмин с малко франджипани и върху подложка от сухо, землисто и прашно пачули.

Комбинацията тръпчиви плодове и пачули присъства в много от любимите ми аромати:

❤ Guerlain La Petite Robe Noire – тук тръпчивите плодове са вишни, отново има доста пачули, но е доста по-сладък от Killer Queen. Ревю за него можете да прочетете тук

❤ Nina Ricci Ricci Ricci EDP – тук отново имаме тръпчива плодова сладост, но идва от този толкова непознат за нашите географски ширини плод: ревен. Пачулито в Ricci Ricci не е толкова прашно, той отново е по-сладък от Killer Queen, но и по-мускусен, докато Killer Queen е по-землист, по-сух и по-малко сладък.  Ревю за него можете да прочетете тук

❤ Roberto Cavalli Paradiso Assoluto EDP – тук допирните точки с Killer Queen са жасмин и пачули, но при Paradiso Assoluto нямаме плодова сладост, той е един огромен, ароматен белоцветен букет с лек дъх на кокос. Ревю за него можете да прочетете тук

Ароматът е комплексен и с интензивно развитие, като в основата му са изявени именно горски плодове, сини сливи, жасмин и пачули. Killer Queen е пищен, обземащ пространството аромат, който оставя парфюмна следа след вас, хем е сладък, хем има прашната нотка на пачули, която го отличава от познатите ни плодово-сладки аромати. За разлика от повечето селебрити аромати, този не е никак детски, лесен за харесване и плоско сладък, според мен си заслужава теста и е доста недооценен. За тази цена получавате силен, траен и запомнящ се аромат, който не е типичният мейнстрийм.

Опаковка:

Истинско бижу ❤ Флаконът е във формата на червен рубин от масивно стъкло, което е оцветено в омбре и прелива красиво от светлобежово през наситено червено до вишнево и черно. На самото пръскало има червен камък, в тон с флакона, а пръскалото и капачката са решени в златно, като капачката е под формата на корона и има печат KP. Флаконът е изключително красив, определено прави впечатление и който ми е дошъл на гости и ми разглежда парфюмите, неминуемо хваща първо или този, или Marc Jacobs Decadence Divinе (ревю тук), с оглед което считам флаконите на тези 2 парфюма за най-впечатляващите в колекцията ми. Поради спецификата на формата, ароматът не може да стои изправен и го държа поставен на една страна, та наистина прилича на скъпоценен камък ❤

Вместимост:

Ароматът е наличен в 30, 50 и 100 ml разфасовки, както и в комплекти с душ гел и лосион за тяло. Моят флакон е 50-милилитровият.

Подходящ сезон:

Определено най-красиво се развива в студено време, като късна есен и през зимата. По правило сладките парфюми с шлейф разкриват цялата си красота именно на по-ниски температури и Killer Queen не прави изключение – в студено време горските плодове и сливите са сладки и ароматни, жасминът е в цялата си прелест, а пачулито е изискано и фино, докато в горещо време плодовете киселеят, жасминът става главоболен (като в Alien на Thierry Mugler), а пачулито става сухо, прашно и твърде землисто, затова нося Killer Queen на не повече от 12 градуса.

Подходящо време:

Аз обичам силни и присъствени аромати с шлейф, затова си нося Killer Queen и като дневен аромат, но повечето дами го възприемат по-скоро като вечерен, защото е плътен, траен, влачи метров шлейф и е много присъствен.

Издръжливост:

Много висока! С 2-3 напръсквания сутрин издържа цял ден, в продължение на който го усещам около себе си, а околните – около мен, шлейфът е доловим, ароматът остава в косата, по дрехите и дори възглавницата. Не изисква никаква нужда от подновяване след 2-3 апликации.

Killer Queen е фантазия от тръпчиви горски плодове (боровинки, касис, къпини), омайно пищен жасмин и землисто-дървесно пачули ❤ Флаконът много точно му подхожда – разкошен, плътен, „червен“, присъствен, шлейфов и запомнящ се аромат, който не е мейнстрийм. Напоследък комбинацията от плодове и пачули е супер популярна в парфюмни композиции, това доведе до обособяването на нова олфактивна категория фручули (fruit + patchouli), Killer Queen успешно се вписва в нея, но това, което го отличава от останалите е, че няма тази характерна захарно-ванилова сладост, която често акомпанира пачулито, тук тя е заменена от тръпчиви горски плодове, които придават сладост на аромата, но тя е по-горчива и несладкарска, макар и гурме.

Препоръчвам го на дами, които са в търсене на бюджетен, присъствен, траен и шлейфов аромат, с актуалното фручули звучене, който обаче не е комерсиално ванилово-захарен.

Scented Review: Guerlain La Petite Robe Noire EDP (EN)

Hello beauties ❤

Today’s post is scented review on one of the Guerlain’s iconic perfumes - La Petite Robe Noire or Little Black Dress ❤This scent is among Guerlain’s bestselling perfumes and it has a lot of flankers too (for those of you who aren’t familiar with this term, flanker is perfume that is released after the original and they share the same DNA, but the flanker has some different notes added/removed) and its quite recognizable.

I remember I first tried Little Black Dress in 2012, right after the release and I immediately asked to receive as my birthday gift – back in the days I didn’t have a whole perfume collection and I only got such expensive perfumes as gifts for special occasions 😊 Back then I like the EDT version of La Petite Robe Noire more – the sour cherries there are lighter and fresher and it just felt more girly than the EDP version which is much sweeter, with more alcohol-y sour cherries and almonds, like they are on amaretto or sour cherry liqueur, suitable for older woman. Today, nearly 10 years late the EDP is scent right out my alley, it fits me and I find the EDT more boring. La petite Robe noire in concentrations EDT and EDP are two different scents – keep this in mind.

History:

La Petite Robe Noire by Guerlain is amber-vanilla fragrance, launched in 2012.  It is created by Thiery Wasser – my favourite perfumer! I’m obsessed with his perfumes and I even attended one of his lives with @guerlain last year in Instagram, where he spoke about his love for Bulgarian rose ❤

Description:

 Top notes: sour cherry, almond, red berries (red currant, red blueberry)

 Middle notes: licorice, Bulgarian rose, red rose, tea leaves

 Base notes: vanilla, Tonka bean, star anise, patchouli, iris

  Development on my skin: 

Even if I wasn’t familiar with the self only by looking at the notes I’ll be 100% sure that I’ll love it at first sniff – everything above is among my favourite notes so their mix can’t be disappointing ❤

On my skin La Petite Robe Noire EDP is sour cherry liquer, marzipan almonds with some licorice, velvet red rose petals with a bit of soft vanilla, earthy patchouli and powdery iris with Tonka bean ❤

Right after spraying the scent feels really alcoholic and bitter, because of the combination almond & licorice, it evens resemblances cough syrup at some point, plus the bergamot adds some additional sharpness to the initial spray. This sharp alcoholic beginning does not last long and some liquierish sour cherries, sweet almonds, tangly licorice and velvet Bulgarian rose petals are appearing ❤ If I have to describe the Little Black Dress with just one word, this word would be luxurious scent – sour cherries, almonds, roses, licorice, vanilla, patchouli, Tonka bean – those are all dominant and even aggressive notes but combined together they work really good in this scent. La Petite Robe Noire isn’t perfume to wear with jeans, T-shirt and sneakers, neither with messy bun and no-makeup-makeup, noo! La Petite Robe Noire requests for bold appearance – leather, fur, bold accessories, heavy jewelry, flawless makeup, high heels, nothing negligée or shy, no! Ironically most of the times I’m wearing Little Black Dress isn’t when I’m pairing it with little black dress, but with high heels, leather trousers,  choker, faux fur coat, smokey eyes/bold makeup in general and voluminous blowout – it just feels right to finish my look with few spritzes of this sour cherry-almond mix that’ll leave massive trail behind me to remind that a bold woman with bold personality was there 😉

La Petite Robe Noire isn’t linear scent – after the alcoholic beginning is gone there is detectable Bulgarian rose note, accompanied by tangly licorice, sour cherries and sweet almonds.  Licorice is often disliked by many because its scent reminds of cough syrup, but I like it – I can’t stand sickly sweet or gourmand vanilla-caramel scents, but I like the bitter sweetnes (like in Schweppes) so I have a few licorice perfumes in my collection:

❤ Lanvin ME EDP

Lanvin ME has similar vibe to La Petite Robe Noire but here instead of sour cherries we are having blueberries, licorice is also presented and Bulgarian rose too, however instead of almonds we are having some sandalwood for warmth. These two are like sisters. Review on ME you can read here

❤ Lolita Lempicka Lolita EDP 

Lolita is like the bigger sister of La Petite Robe Noire – here we have also generous amount of licorice, but instead of sour cherries there are cherries and tons of powdery violets which are missing in La Petite Robe Noire, so by Lolita they make the scent a bit  more sophisticated. In the base La Petite Robe Noire reveals smoky-sweet Tonka bean, soft and non-gourmand vanilla, earthy patchouli and powdery iris – beautiful blend ❤ Here’s how the scent stays until the end but keep in mind the sour cherries and the almonds are detectable during the whole development. Little Black Dress is complex scent that has intensive development and all of the notes are quite strong & dominant but blend perfect together. La Petite Robe Noire is luxurious, sumptuous, aggressive scent which won’t suit ladies that can’t or doesn’t want to have bold appearance.

Packaging:

Bottle is true masterpiece! It has massive ombre glass that graduates from pink to black, it has engraved black dress on it, it has beautiful ribbon with the brand name on the neck and stamped Guerlain logo on the sprayer ❤ I find not only the perfumes design remarkable, but the whole campaign behind the La Petite Robe Noire franchise – in fact it’s my favourite advertise I’ve ever seen. Storage:

EDP version is available in 30, 50 and 75 ml bottles – I own the smallest and the biggest.

Season appropriate:

Autumn & winter. In the cold winter the sour cherries are sweet & liquorish, the almonds have that Christmas marzipan feeling and the vanilla is soft and non-gourmand. In hot weather the sour cherries are getting too bitter and the scent itself is so strong that it might get overwhelming. I feel like this scent is festive and it develops best in cold weather ❤

Time appropriate:

I truly enjoy hardcore perfumes with great lasting power & sillage so I tend to wear La Petite Robe Noire as daytime and nighttime perfume, but most people think is more acceptable as night time perfume due the dominant liquier-ish sour cherries and almond notes, plus the high sillage.

Longevity:

Amazing! In the pre-pandemic times I applied 3-4 spritzes in the mornings and at work during the whole day I was told that there is “sour cherries scented cloud around me” and that my perfume stays even in the elevator after I left. Throughout the whole day I can feel my perfume being detectable on my skin and even after I take a shower I can still feel it. I even got some complaints that my perfume is too strong and overwhelming (not that I care about it – I’m #capricorn 😀) so the longevity & sillage are very, very strong.

La Petite Robe Noire is truly an opulent perfume – luxurious, sumptuous, charming and so sweet! It’s hat the best development & performance in cold weather, where is the warm sour cherries and almonds hug you and leave sweet trail after you, to remind your presence. It smells on liquier-ish sour cherries, marzipan almonds, tarty licorice and warm vanilla ❤
