Hello ❤
Nina Ricci is one of the
brands which perfumes I adore– I like
every single one of them in different way, I am always curious to test their
new launches and I yearn for discontinued ones. My very first
perfume I fell in love with and I still adore is also by Nina Ricci -– L’Elixir EDP (I wrote my very first scented review 5 years ago – you
can find it here). Too bad L’Elixir is discontinued and no longer
available for purchasing – I love it! The perfume I’ll introduce to you today
is another scent I fell in love it with the first sniff – right when I first
sprayed it all I though was “Wow, this is such a “mine” type of scent” :))
Ricci Ricci is
chypre-floral scent that has dominant rhubarb notes, which is one of my
favorite notes – in case you don’t know how rhubarb smells, then imagine
similar to sour cherry smell: tart-y sweet fruity smell. Rhubarb is getting quite popular recently in
terms of perfume notes and I really hope it will be found in more, because I
really love it. Nina Ricci’s newest launch – Bella also has dominant rhubarb
notes, it is already in my wish list and it is matter of time to get my hands
on it.
History:
Ricci Ricci Eau de Parfum is
launched in 2009 as a
scent for urban heroine that wants to stand out and be noticed. Its
composition contains rhubarb, bergamot, moon flower, tuberose, patchouli, rose
and sandalwood notes.
Description:
Top
notes: bergamot, moon flower
Middle notes: rhubarb, tuberose, rose
Base notes: patchouli, sandal wood
Development on my skin:
Right after spraying on my
skin the scent is really really sharp, sour and citrusy, almost like a
masculine scent, in fact that the top notes include dozens of bergamot. I really like citrusy notes but here the bergamot
is a bit too much intense even for me. 15 minutes after the initial spray base notes are
showing up – dominant rhubarb and strong tuberose are taking on the scent and
until the drydown this is what I feel: almost monoscent of tart, juicy and
sweet rhubarb and strong, fragrant and intense tuberose. Tuberose is a note
that many people can’t stand and if you aren’t serious tuberose lover, then
this scent is simply not for you. Ricci
Ricci smells on fragrant, thick and creamy white floral and in combination with
the tart rhubarb sweetness you might get an association with retro white floral
perfume from the last century. My skin has amazing chemistry with tart & sour
fruity notes (rhubarb, sour cherry, blueberry, etc) and the perfumes that have
dominant tart & sour fruit notes suit me best – same is with the tuberose – on my skin tuberose projects fine, classic, elegant,
feminine and creamy scent. How to understand which notes suit you best?
Answer is simple –many, many tests,
tests on different weather, on different time, even on different mood, until
you understand which notes work best for you.
In the base Ricci Ricci
gets warmer and softer, thanks to the velvet red rose notes, warm sandalwood
and fine, earthy patchouli, which combined together add depth to the scent, but
it remain tart & white floral until the end. Ricci Ricci I would describe
as linear scent – dominant rhubarb with tart sweetness and creamy fragrant
tuberose.
Ricci Ricci is deep,
sensorial, noticeable, sexy and feminine scent that gives me association as
final touch for a following look: dark smokey eye, waterfall of curls, high
heel sandals, dark stiletto manicure, stylish clutch and skinny leather trousers.
This is one of the scents that brought me so many compliments from men (the
only one that provokes more compliments is Decadence Divine by Marc Jacobs, which is some sort of a phenomenon and people lose
their mind over it – review here) while the women
perceive Ricci Ricci as too sour, too sharp and too bitter :D I personally can
never get tired of Ricci Ricci – this non-typical combination of sweet tart
rhubarb and fragrant white floral simply drives me crazy ❤
Storage:
Ricci Ricci is available
in
30, 50 и 80ml EDP.
Packaging:
Such a dollish and cute
packaging! The glass bottle is in ellipse form in gradient light rose to dark
purple shades, the bottleneck and the cap itself is in the form of stylized
bow. No matter how much I like the bottle I have to admit that it isn’t
convenient and suitable for traveling – it closes firmly but the bow feels
fragile and I don’t want to break it accidentally, so I never carry this
fragrance with me whenever traveling.
Time appropriate:
Since Ricci Ricci is quite
strong, intensive and noticeable scent, it has more than 12+ hours longevity on
my skin so I’ll classify it more as a night time scent than as daytime
suitable. I do wear it as daytime scent though, but with 2 to 3 applications. If
I go for it as a night time scent I’ll spritz 4-5 times and then I feel it for
hours with an amazing trail & silage, including the next day and after
shower.
Season appropriate:
I would not restrict
myself by wearing Ricci Ricci during just one season – for me this scent is
suitable for wearing all year long and depending on the weather different notes
appear stronger: in the cold weather Ricci Ricci feels more fruity and soft,
while in hot weather appears more sour & floral. If you are into light
scents then you might prefer wearing Ricci Ricci as winter fragrance.
Longevity:
High – as I apply it in the mornings around 8:00
I still feel it in the evening, which makes around 12 hours of intense
projection with just 2-3 applications, and as I mentioned above if I go for 4-5
spritzes longevity is even higher and the residual smell is still noticeable
even after a shower.
Ricci Ricci is scent for
serious lovers of tart sweet scents & white floral. Ricci Ricci has strong
rhubarb and white floral note (mostly tuberose), as well as detectable
patchouli and sandal wood notes and many people perceive it as really sour,
really strong and particular scent, so it is too far away from the popular
mainstream scents you
can smell everywhere (like Lancome La Vie Est Belle for example).
If you are looking for a
stronger rhubarb note you can test Nina Ricci Bella which is almost a rhubarb
mono scent and most of the pеople
find it too bitter and harsh, but I personally really
like it and I’ll buy it for sure. Lighter and not so dominant rhubarb note you
can find in Green Tea EDP by Elizabeth Arden (I have a review on it here), as well as in the new scent by Mexx
Whenever Wherever.
For me
Ricci Ricci is from the same fragrant
line as Guerlain La Petite Robe Noire, Nina Ricci L’Elixir (review here), Nina Ricci Bella, Lanvin Me (review here) – all of them are scents that are having white floral
suspicion (mostly
tuberose)
and juicy tart and a bit sour fruity
sweetness (sour
cherry/black currant).
For me Ricci Ricci is one
of my top 5 all-time
favorite scents ever since the moment I’ve first tried it – I immediately
thought that it is perfect for me and I had no doubts if I should buy it.
Unfortunately Ricci Ricci is discontinued for a while now and is to be found
until stocks run out, so I’ll have to re-stock with some bottles as long as it
still saleable on some places.
Have you tried Ricci Ricci
and what are your thoughts?
