Review: Rimmel Magnifyes WOW Eyeshadow Palette (EN)

Hello everyone

Today’s review is all about the latest eyeshadow palette by Rimmel –Magnifyes WOW Edition. The collection WOW contains 2 mascaras, colorful eyeliner and one eyeshadow palette in interesting color scheme. I already wrote about the mascara here, it is a nice mascara but I don’t think I’ll repurchase it. I also tested the colorful eyeliners but currently I am not into eyeliners and I don’t own any eyeliners at the moment.

Rimmel actually launched 4 new palettes: Crimson (completely cherry-reddish shades), Electric Violet (completely blue-purpleish shades), Jewel Rocks (completely green-mustardy shades) and WOW (variety of bright shades). By this moment WOW is the only available on the Bulgarian market from all of them but I’ll be happy to buy Crimson and Jewel Rocks as well because they are exactly my cup of tea.

WOW got my attention and I got it since I was strongly attracted by the incredibly pretty petrol green shade – green is my favorite color and I simply adore green makeup

Rimmel changed last year their eyeshadow formula and in the spring I bought the palette Spice, which is completely in the trendy orange-red color selection – review & swatches you can see here

I am pretty impressed by the quality of Spice and I use it a lot so I didn’t have any doubts about adding WOW to my makeup collection: I wear a lot & dark makeup quite often and this color selection is suitable for creating my beloved smokey eye looks. If you don’t like bold colorful makeup or you prefer delicate & neutral shades, then this palette is definitely not for you.

This palette contains 12 shades and all of them have either shimmer or metallic finish, so that makes them suitable for creating bold, vamp and intense smokey eye – you have limited options to create light & everyday look with it.

Shades are described from left to right:

1.Orangy-red with fine golden glow and shimmer finish such a trendy shade in my favorite red color selection, extremely suitable for green and hazel eyes: always when I wear this type of eyeshadow my eyes look bright green I really love wearing orange-red smokey eyes and I would wear this shade applied all over my mobile & lower lid and smoked out with black or deep red. On everyday bases I have to wear more subtle and delicate makeup and I often tend to apply this type of eyeshadow on my upper lid with angled brush as an eyeliner – this way I get colorful but yet suitable for everyday bases makeup.

2.Bronze with orange undertone and shimmer finish – classic and pretty universal bronze shade, suitable literally for everyone. I would wear it applied on my upper lid and smoked out with dark brown or black, for classic smokey eye. For more everyday look I’ll apply slightly this bronze shade on the upper lid with fluffy blending brush and a bit of black eyeliner in the lash line + mascara.

3. Light pink with pearly finish – the only light & neutral shade in the whole palette. Frosty light pink with pearly finish, suitable for highlighting in the inner corner or for applying all over the mobile lid for light & highlighted look. I wore it already applied on the mobile lid with blending brush with some matte brown eyeshadow on the lashline + mascara – it turns out fresh, doll-like, springtime makeup, suitable for every day.

4.Frosted white with hologram finish – this shade is the most disappointed one from the whole palette. It looks interesting at first sight because it is non-typical frosted white shade with holographic hue in green-blueish, but applied on the skin it has such poor pigmentation even over a base, it does not apply evenly and honestly I can’t see myself wearing it.

5.Light grey with baby blue undertone and shimmer finish – in the pan this shade looks grey, but applied on my yellow toned skin looks like grey-blue shade. This shade isn’t exactly my cup of tea and a shade I’ll reach for frequently, since I don’t really wear grey although it looks good on me. I would wear it applied on the mobile lid and smoked out with dark grey/black. Here you can see makeup created by me in similar grey-blue shade.

6.Light grey-green with shimmer finish – I may not get nice ware from the previous shade but this one is more typical for me – I do wear green makeup quite often and I think I’ll wear this too. It is suitable for highlighting the inner corner whenever doing green smokey eyes and for soft & subtle green makeup I’ll apply it all over the mobile lid with blending brush + some dark green eyeliner and mascara.

7.Intense olive green with yellow undertone and shimmer finish – amazing deep and intensive olive green shade, my second favorite from this paletteI already can imagine this shade applied all over the mobile lid and smoked out with dark green or black. For more everyday look I’ll apply it with light hand on the outer 1/3 from the mobile lid, carefully smoked out with light neutral shade and some dark green eyeliner in the lash line. Recently I wore this makeup and I received whole bunch of compliments. You can see green makeup looks I created here, here and here.

8.Bright teal with blue undertone and metallic finish –  incredibly beautiful teal shade and the main reason I got this paletteI have a lot green eyeshadows with different finishes but I don’t own anything similar to this. I’ll wear this shade applied all over the mobile & lower lid and smoked out with matte blackIt looks amazing and it makes my eyes pop.  For more everyday look I’ll apply it with angled brush as eyeliner + 2-3 coats mascara.  Obsessed

9.Navy blue with purple undertone and metallic finish – it reminds me a lot of the eyeshadow Addis Ababa by NYX (review here). Before I used to wear navy blue makeup quite often (you can see some makeup looks I created here and here). Usually I apply navy blue eyeshadow all over my mobile & upper lid and then smoked it out with either black or anthracite.

10.Ultraviolet with light blue undertone and shimmer finish such an interesting and non-typical purple shade, I haven’t tried it on myself and I’m curious to see if it look good on me because when I wear purple I usually go for dark purple or plum shade.  I can see it only applied all over the mobile lid and smoked out with cool purple or black, for dramatic and bold smoke eye look.

11.Dark blue-black with satin finish – at first sight this looks like a black, but applied on the skin appears as navy blue with fine satin finish. It isn‘t interesting or non-typical shade but it’s suitable for smoking out all blue, purple and green shades in this palette.

12.Anthracite grey with satin base and fine silver glitter the darkest shade in the palette, suitable for smoking out in the outer V for any cool toned smokey eye.

All shades in the palette, except for №4 have rich pay-off, easy application, does not require patting to get intensive color and have good longevity even on its own.

According to my perceptions this palette is suitable for women who wear dark and vamp makeup – if you wear simple and neutral makeup, then better skip WOW.

WOW is great for creating interesting smokey eye looks for night out but you need another palette in order to achieve perfect smokey eye -  I personally could not create finished makeup look using only WOW because I need at least 2 matte shades to get the perfect look: one medium dark brown/grey for applying in the crease + powder/vanilla shade for softening the blending.

Overall:
For me this eyeshadow palette is great drugstore palette – soft, butter shade with shimmer finish, suitable mostly for creating dark, vamp and bold smokey eye looks. Teal shade is the main reason I wanted to get this palette and I can’t wait to incorporate it in a teal smokey eye look. Rest of the shades (beside the navy blue and the red shade) are shades that I don’t own in my makeup collection and I can experiment with new looks.
As is said I wouldn’t be able to do a complete makeup look with this palette since I have to combine it with 2 single matte eyeshadows – for the upcoming trips I plan to pack WOW + 2 single eyeshadows   (NYX Morocco and NYX Seoul).

Have you tried the palette WOW and what are your thoughts?
