Basic:Different Foundation Finishes (EN)

Today’s post contains basic information about the different foundation finishes. I think that this information would be helpful for makeup beginners to choose the perfect foundation. Also I picked for every finish 3 products as an example (drugstore, middle & high end products.)

1.Dewy finish

Fresh, luminous and youthful look

A dewy foundation works perfect for dry skin, because it adds moisture. The dewy foundation is also perfect for women with mature skin, because it fills in the wrinkles & fine lines and makes them less visible.

Foundations with dewy finish doesn’t work well for women with oily/combination skin because they make the pores & imperfections more visible and add more shine to the oily skin, which doesn’t look nice. Dewy foundations doesn’t work good at summer, because they don’t have good lasting power. Their coverage might be low to medium.

2.Satin Finish

The finish is not dewy, yet not matte. It gives natural finish with a soft sheen.

The satin finish is really adaptive and looks great on all skin types. It has more lasting power compared to the dewy foundation. For a really oily skin it works best with powder on top. Foundations with satin finish usually provides low to medium coverage.

Perfect coverage, no shine, amazing lasting power

Foundations with matte finish are perfect choice for oily/combination skin because they don’t contain any oils and don’t give any more moisture to the skin. Matte foundations have amazing lasting power and really high coverage – which cover acne, scars and discoloration. A matte foundation doesn’t look good on women with dry skin, because it can exaggerate the dry patches. Also it doesn’t look good on women with mature skin, because it makes the fine lines & wrinkles more visible. Its really important to apply the matte foundation with light hand so it doesn’t crease and look cakey.

For really natural look

Foundations with sheer finish are perfect for women with clear skin, without imperfections. Those foundations usually are tinted moisturizers and have really slight coverage and don’t have good lasting power. They are perfect for everyday use.
